Contaminant in your water: PFAS

What are PFASs

Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are synthetic chemicals that have been used since the 1940s in products like non-stick cookware, water-repellent fabrics, fire-fighting foams, and even some food packaging due to their resistance to heat, water, and oil.

PFAS: “Forever Chemicals”

These chemical compounds are highly resistant to breaking down in the environment. Due to their strong carbon-fluorine bonds, PFAS are highly stable and durable, leading to their accumulation in water, soil, and living organisms, including humans, for decades and “forever”.

Danger of PFAS in Water

Exposure to PFAS has been linked to a range of adverse health effects. Research indicates that PFAS can accumulate in the human body over time, leading to potential health risks such as: cancer, hormonal disruptions, Immune system effects, and affect foetal development.

High-risk water sources

Surface & groundwater near military installations/ bases & airports.

Water sources near firefighting training areas & industrial sites.

Urban wastewater, coastal waters, and surface waters receiving treated wastewater.

Private wells and bores near landfills, wastewater treatment plants, and agricultural areas where PFAS-contaminated biosolids have been applied.

Preventive measures

Use certified water filters: Consider using water filters certified to remove PFAS from your drinking water. Look for filters that meet NSF/ANSI standards.

Reduce use of PFAS products: Limit products known to contain PFAS, such as non-stick cookware, water-repellent clothing, and specific fast-food packaging.

Stay informed: Stay updated on PFAS levels in your local water supply and any advisories issued by health authorities.

Safe drinking water

At Aqua Works, we install water filters certified to remove PFAS, such as activated carbon/ reverse osmosis systems.

If you live near a potential contamination source like an industrial site or landfill, we highly recommend to test your water regularly for PFAS in your drinking water.

Avoid contaminated sources: Don’t use private wells or surface water sources that are highly risky for PFAS contamination without proper testing and treatment.

PFAS the invisible chemical in your drinking water

PFAS may be invisible, but the threat to your family’s health is indisputable. Protect your loved ones with a carbon filter that guarantees 100% removal of PFAS from your drinking water.

At Aqua Works, we are committed to optimising water quality, offering advanced solutions such as reverse osmosis (RO) systems and KDF Media to remove harmful contaminants, including PFAS.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) for safer water!

A reverse osmosis (RO) system is considered one of the most effective methods for removing harmful PFAS from drinking water. RO systems force water through a semipermeable membrane, which filters out contaminants, including PFAS, down to a molecular level.

This process can significantly reduce (up to 94%, including newer compounds like GenX) the concentration of these “forever chemicals,” often eliminating them, ensuring that the water you drink is safe and free from these harmful substances. Aqua Works offer whole house and under bench RO solutions depending on your individual requirements.

GAC Water Filter for PFAS

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Filters

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filters are highly effective at reducing PFAS in drinking water by trapping contaminants on the surface of carbon particles. As water passes through, PFAS molecules bind to the porous carbon, removing them from the water.

GAC filters can reduce PFAS levels by 95% or greater, depending on water quality and proper maintenance.

Aqua Works offers whole-house GAC systems, ensuring PFAS-free water from every tap and under-bench filter for clean, safe drinking water in the kitchen. Our certified plumbers provide expert installations and tailored solutions for your home’s specific needs.
